The NEW Green Book

The New Green Book is a 2017 interpretation of the Negro Motorist's Green Book, a travel guide that outlined safe routes of passage to African American travelers. In my piece, I created directories for potential 2017 users: immigration resources, natural hair salons, legal rights surrounding police accountability, and LGBTQ rights. The last booklet, HOME, tackles my personal "safe places".

Using the original 1936 edition as my guide, each booklet (in addition to its directory) is accompanied by "ads" that summarize the information in the book, show references, and display findings that felt unique and intersesting.

This project was initiated as my MFA thesis exhibition piece.
